The subject of "controlling" the dice is one of the more debated topics in the game. Heated debates occur routinely whether it is possible or not. There are well-known terms in the craps world relating to influencing the dice. These terms, such as "dice influence" or "dice setter" imply that you know how to make a specific number come up simply by how you grab the dice, how you throw them, or even what you are thinking at the time of your release without consideration for any of a number of other factors.
I prefer to stay away from guesswork, and so I have come up with a way that any scientist or statistician can understand how to get the edge. Put simply, I call this "know yo throw."
The mere choice of words is important when considering how to effectively make money from your ability to influence the dice. Many people decide ahead of time what they want to bet, and then think "if I could just roll something that would win that bet!"
The approach that I recommend is simple, and it cannot be argued against as it is based in science and facts, not wishful thinking and selective memory. Rather than trying to roll what you want and getting what you don't want in between and cursing, learn to throw from the same position and distance from the back wall, and work hard to maintain a consistent amount of spin, and other elements without any regards whatsoever to the outcome.
This means DO set the dice the same way, but set them however you want as long as you do it the same way every single time. If someone rolls a certain number when they set a certain way, you may set the same way and come up with completely different numbers because of a whole list of other factors that are nearly impossible to pin down!
That is step one. You can practice step one in your home or anywhere paying special attention to consistency in landing zone and all other factors in your control, just do not worry about the outcome of the dice at all.
Step 2 is to take your throw into a controlled environment and throw as many times as you can. You are shooting for an ideal of 1000 or more throws. You want to record the outcome of both dice, and if you are meticulous, you will use two different colored dice so that you can record each die's outcome specifically.
Once you get a single perfected throw that is consistent and you can throw it over and over, then you use my special software to find out how to bet on your throw. The way that this works is that the software looks at as large a database of your actual throws, and the computer decides what betting strategy makes the most money for your throwing style. You have to understand that just like the casino, when YOU have the edge instead of them, a consistent betting strategy is required. You want to keep your bet amounts the same and your throw the same, and you want to have as many events as possible without worrying about the ups and downs. You want to continue to bet consistently no matter what is happening without any thought at all knowing that you have the edge.
Recording the throws is easy to do. You can fire up notepad on a laptop and start keying in your throws. Here's a sample throw file:
a:61`41`33`42`23`43`53`23`21`11`53`42`43 b:21`66`56`53`62`62`43 a:43`
In this example file, "A" is player "A" and "B" is player "B". You can have as many players as you want with a single letter. The reason the special character is used inbetween the numbers is simply because it is easier to hit that than a spacebar as it's right next to the one key. If you have two people at a table, one can record throws and return the dice while the other throws and then you can take turns back and forth.
